Scotland is renowned for its rugged beauty and outdoor pursuits, the Eastern Cairngorms is a hidden gem. Away from the tourist trail of the Western Cairngorms and yet still easily accessible. Ballater, Aboyne, Braemar, Tomintoul all make excellent starting points for adventure into the hills.

The local trails have some of the best mountain biking in Scotland with a massive array to keep all standard happy and put a smile on your face. Tarland Trails is a small trail centre within 3.5 miles of the cottage by road or can be accessed almost entirely off road from Larach. This has a Blue, a technical red run and an "extreme" Orange run
MOUNTAIN BIKING




There is a huge choice of tracks and paths to explore within a stones throw of Larach cottage. All levels can be accommodated from a simple stroll along the Deeside Way (the old disused victorian railway from Aboyne to Ballater) or a hike to the top of Mount Keen via the stunning Glen Tanar. Lochnagar, one of Scotland's well known Munros is easily accessed from Glen Muick just south of Ballater.
There are an abundance of golf course opportunities close by from the 9 hole course in Tarland just 3.5 miles away
